Hello, summer! (and a little update)

Hello, dear readers! It’s been a minute! Apologies for my absence here on the blog. The final months of school are always a bit crazy, and before I knew it, April had turned to May, and then to June, and here we are. In the middle of end-of-the-school-year craziness, I’ve been working hard finishing edits on my current manuscript. I’m happy to report that I have sample chapters that are ready for a different set of eyes.

Me and my summer ready classroom!

Here’s where I need your help! I’m looking for beta readers! What’s a beta reader and what do they do? I’m glad you asked.

A beta reader is someone who reads the current manuscript and answers a series of questions about it. They are a crucial part of the editing process for authors. Plus, you get to read the story before anyone else!

Summer at Caroling Creek

Travel writer Mylze Moore lives to travel. Her life in the city is one of convenience: easy access to the airport, and by extension, the world. She’s happy traveling on her own, but something is missing. Now that she’s been grounded by her publisher, her bank account balance is dwindling and her sister is pressuring her to find a *real* job. When the sisters inherit their aunt’s lake cabin, Mylze thinks her problems are solved. A quick sale, split the profits, and she’ll be back in the air.

Meddlesome contractor Jeff Matthews has other ideas. Aunt Carol’s cabin is a construction zone, and must be renovated before Mylze can sell it. Mylze needs to make this process as quick and cheap as possible, and she doesn’t need a man to do it. Her DIY attitude lands her in more than a few small catastrophes, and she must turn to the only professional in town for help: Jeff. Sparks fly as they figure out how to work together on the project. But sparks can ignite a fire, especially when fueled by summer sunsets, the stars, and some strategically placed twinkle lights.

As the summer days stretch on, embers of love ignite and Mylze discovers that her wanderlust has turned into something more: a longing for a place to call home. But when pressure to sell the cabin mounts, Mylze must choose between saving her career, or selling her memories and losing Jeff in the process.

Sounds fun, right? Do you enjoy reading sweet romance? If you’d like to escape to Caroling Creek for a DIY cabin renovation project and a sweet summer romance, click here to fill out a short survey. My first round of beta readers would agree to read and provide feedback by July 15th. I’ll provide you with a list of questions to consider as you read, and, as a thank you, you’ll receive double entries into my next giveaway, coming up in July!

In other exciting news, I’m going to a writer’s conference!! I have the amazing opportunity to attend the Cascade Christian Writer’s Conference in Canby, Oregon in late June, just after school gets out. I haven’t had the opportunity to attend an in-person conference yet, so this will be my first and I’m so excited! It will be so fun to rub shoulders with other writers, meet with authors, agents, and editors, and learn from some of the best in the industry. I can’t wait!

Want to be the first to hear about how the conference goes? Make sure to sign up for my monthly newsletter! Newsletter subscribers enjoy first access to literary news, giveaways, and tips to leave a legacy that matters.

Now that summer is here, I’ll be getting back to posting more regularly! Summer is a great time for resetting life rhythms and routines. Maybe we’ll talk more about that next time!

  1. Hi,

Oh mygoodgarland! Your novel sounds amazing. I would totally sign up as a beta reader, but I just agreed to a round of edits for another friend’s novel and would not have time for both. 😭

I hope and pray you receive great feedback.

    God bless you,

    Leah Schwabauer
